Dissipative Kerr-solitons in integrated Fabry-Perot microresonators

Dissipative Kerr solitons (DKSs) in high-Q microresonators enable applications sensing, communication, and signal processing. Until now, DKSs driven by continuous-wave (CW) lasers are exclusively generated ring-type resonators. Complementary to resonators, Fabry-Perot resonators could new approaches dispersion engineering, addressing a key challenge of DKS technology. However, generation CW-driven microresonator has not yet been achieved. Here, we demonstrate for the first time microresonator. Fabricated wafer-level process, two photonic crystal reflectors waveguide form chip-integrated resonator define its dispersion. The intrinsic Q-factor 4 million is propagation-loss limited. In principle, each cell reflector can be tailored, opening design space beyond traditional with potential future extension visible other currently inaccessible wavelengths. Beyond DKSs, this creates opportunities filter-driven pulse formation, engineered spectra broadband phase-matching microresonators.
